Open Jet:
Open Jets are used when non part contact is required and when surface finish is 65 rms or finer. Open jets are the least expensive and least maintenance type of jet.
Ball Jet:
Ball Jets are recommended when the part is porous, when surface finish is above 65 rms, when a narrow land must be gaged, and when gaging close to a holes’ edge.
Leaf Jet:
Leaf Jet spindles are semi-standard contact gaging elements for checking rough surfaces, and for gaging thru or blind holes in which oil grooves, keyways or cross-drilled holes prevent the use of standard Open Air Spindles. Leaf
components are kept in stock and spindles are made to the size you order. Leaf Jet spindles are for checking hole diameters 7/16” and larger. They may be designed for checking tolerances in excess of those possible with Open Air/Ball Jet Spindles. They can be be used for checking to the extreme bottom of blind holes and to the extreme edge of holes and grooves. The two or more Leafs are hinged on a thin flexing section of steel: friction-free movement prevents sticking.
